Select a module according to the actual process, material application, location and scheme requirements. Module A concerns food contact, Module B cosmetics and household care applications, Module C corporate social responsibility, and Module D additional PVC requirements.
Modules extend the general requirements
RecyClass Recycling Process Certification is always the foundation. RecyClass identifies four additional modules: Module A – Food Contact, Module B – Cosmetics & Household Care Applications, Module C – Corporate Social Responsibility, and Module D – PVC Requirements. It is not possible to apply only for a module while omitting the scheme's general requirements.
Module A – Food Contact
Module A concerns recycling operations involving materials intended for food-contact applications. RecyClass divides this scope into:
- Module A1 – final pre-processing operations before decontamination;
- Module A2 – the decontamination process itself.
Module A does not independently demonstrate compliance with Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 or guarantee food safety. Legal compliance must be assessed separately.
The RecyClass Q&A 2026 clarifies that Module A is required when it applies to the products and process under assessment. In such cases it is not an add-on selected solely at the customer's request. Module A2 does not cover novel technologies; their eligibility and the requirements for upstream stages must be considered separately.
Module B – Cosmetics & Household Care Applications
Module B covers additional requirements for recycled materials intended for relevant cosmetics and household care applications. These include input material control, process quality and information about the output material.
Module C – Corporate Social Responsibility
Module C concerns corporate social responsibility. For recyclers operating outside EU27+3, meeting the additional requirements of Module C is a condition for obtaining RecyClass Recycling Process Certification.
Module D – PVC Requirements
For post-consumer PVC recycling, the RP audit must be extended to include Module D. It covers matters including lead monitoring and traceability within the relevant controlled loop. For RC certification of post-consumer PVC, the Q&A requires the supplying recycler to hold valid RP certification with Module D.
Can one certificate cover several modules?
Yes, if the actual activities meet the conditions of more than one module. Each additional scope must nevertheless reflect the process, material application, location and current RecyClass documentation.
How should a module be selected?
- define the input material and recycling process;
- identify the recycled output;
- establish its intended application;
- check the plant's location;
- compare the activities with the current scheme and module requirements.
Key point
A module extends certification requirements; it is not a marketing extra. It should only be applied when it corresponds to the actual process and compliance with the relevant requirements can be demonstrated.
