AT A GLANCE

EN 15343 supports traceability and recycled content calculations. Reliable evidence connects suppliers, incoming batches, storage, processing and output, allowing each declared percentage to be reconstructed from actual records.

Why does EN 15343 matter?

EN 15343 concerns plastics recycling traceability, conformity assessment and recycled content. It is a key reference for systems intended to trace material origin and movement reliably.

Traceability starts before production

A company should know who supplied the material, its status, the facility it came from and its associated documentation. Batch numbers, purchase documents, supplier certificates and storage identification should form a consistent chain of information.

The process must preserve the link between material and data

Traceability continues after receipt. Storage, transfers, dosing, mixing, processing and the connection between material and the relevant output product must be controlled.

Recycled content must follow from the records

The declared percentage should be reproducible from actual recipes, material consumption and production data. For a product with several components, clearly define whether the percentage applies to the whole product, its plastic part or a specific component.

EN 15343 and RecyClass

RecyClass Recycling Process Certification and Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification refer to principles associated with EN 15343. In practice, this means focusing on material origin, traceability, quantity reconciliation and verification of the declared recycled content.

What evidence should be maintained?

  • supplier certificates and supplier qualification records;
  • purchase and stock records;
  • batch identification;
  • recipes and dosing data;
  • production reports;
  • quantity reconciliation;
  • material quality documentation;
  • the connection between the product and its declared recycled content.

Putting the standard into practice

EN 15343 requires more than completing a worksheet. Its practical value emerges when a company can trace material from source to product and support every declared value with original records.
